Good Afternoon folks and welcome back to another weekly update from Des Moines Gaming Club. We have got a regular schedule coming up this week at the club meaning we are open for casual play Tuesday-Thursday 1pm-10pm, Friday & Saturday 1pm-11pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm. Our weekly tournament schedule is normal as well with Fighting Game night Wednesday at 7pm with casuals before, during, and after bracket play and the official tournaments being Guilty Gear Strive and King of Fighters XV this week. Thursday is the Smash Bros. weekly with squad strike at 6:30 and singles in Ultimate and Melee at 7pm. Friday night is FIFA 22 at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm is our Rocket League local.
We had our first coaching session in our League of Legends Summer program here at the Club this past Friday. Huge shoutout to director or esports at Simpson College Hubert Whan Tong for coming out and doing the coaching for that session. If you or someone you know is interested in joining you still can, just give us a call and we can prorate the rest of the sessions you are able to attent. Plus, don’t forget that in the month of July it is our separate intermediate/advanced program so be sure to sign up for that on our website’s shop if you are interested.
That’l do it for updates from the Club, we’ll now move on to some esports industry news. The announcement trailer for the long anticipated Street Fighter 6 was released recently and it gives fans the first glimpses of gameplay and confirms that the game will release some time in 2023. Highlights of the trailer included an open world or free roam type of single player campaign, 4 featured fighters including Luke, Ryu, & Chun-Li, and a street/metro city theme but if you’re interested you should check it out for yourself. Even though it could still potentially be a year or more away Des Moines Gaming Club is excited about and will be sure to host tournaments in Street Fighter 6 as soon as it comes out.
The Call of Duty League had it’s 3rd major tournament of the season this past weekend hosted in Toronto by the Toronto Ultra. Once again we saw a new team win the event in the Seattle Surge who beat Atlanta FaZe in the Grand Finals 5-3. It’s tough for FaZe since they finished 2nd in the last major which shows they are perhaps the most consistent in the CDL but they can’t get over the hump in Vanguard like they’ve been able to do in past seasons in other Call of Duty titles. Toronto Ultra and LA Thieves finished 3rd and 4th while OpTic Texas finished 5th with sub Prolute in for the injured Illey.
