Goooood Afternoon gamers! Welcome back to another Tuesday Telecast here at Des Moines Gaming Club!
CLASH IN THE CAPITAL 2 is happening this Saturday! Our FGC monthly is back and we’ve got 1v1 double elimination tournaments in Tekken 7 and Melty Blood: Type Lumina both of which start at 12:30 and then we have Guilty Gear Strive and Street Fighter V starting at 2pm! Remember that each tournament has a pot bonus of $15! This will be a great warmup event for Frosty Faustings or the esports festival at Grand View University both of which are happening not this weekend but the next. You can sign up for Clash in the Capital on Smash GG by just searching Clash in the Capital, but we’ll also provide the link below. Always pumped for our monthly tournaments since we do like to focus on providing competitive opportunities for gamers in central Iowa. Masks will be required for this event just like our other monthly tournaments simply due to the number of expected players. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have via email at info@dsmgamingclub.com, by phone at 515-850-2197, or direct message on Facebook, Twitter, or Discord.
Also, as is the case on Monthly days, the Club will be closed after the conclusion of the tournament but other than that, the rest of the week here at
DMGC will follow our normal schedule. Casual play available Tuesday-Thursday 1pm-10pm, Friday 1pm-11pm, and then Sunday 11am-5pm. Our weekly tournament schedule is also normal with the FGC local happening Wednesday at 7pm so come on out and get some good practice sets in before Saturday. And then of course we have Smash Bros. local Thursday night. We normally do Doubles at 6:30 with singles to follow at 7pm but this week we are swapping doubles with squad strike so if you are interested in playing in the squad strike tournament be sure to show up at 6:30!
We continue with our locals schedule with FIFA 22 on Friday night at 7pm, and then Rocket League as usual at 1pm on Sunday. As we’ve been mentioning Grand View University is hosting a big esports festival on Saturday and Sunday January 29th and 30th. They will have about 10 tournaments all with cash prizes in all of your favorite video games and they are also looking to hire local help for the tournament so be sure to check out by scrolling through our social media pages and looking for the links to their event pages.
Of course also on Sunday January 30th we are hosting another online Halo infinite tournament so if you’d rather stay inside in the comfort of your own home then grab some teammates and head to smash gg and find our page to sign up for that.
We’ll end today’s Telecast with the massive news that shook the video game industry earlier this morning. Microsoft has acquired Activision/Blizzard for a reported 70 billion dollars. This comes amidst many reports of sexual misconduct and discrimination at Activision/Blizzard not to mention the dire situation it’s flagship game Call of Duty finds itself in at the moment. Right off the bat you worry about one company having so much power. It wouldn’t be too surprising if the government got involved and took some anti-trust action against Microsoft so as to avoid a massive monopoly on the gaming industry. Many are also pointing out positives that can come from this merger. First off hopefully improving the culture and getting rid of a climate that allows for sexual misconduct would be nice. But having bigger teams with more funding could help a lot of these game studios put out better games and maintenance. Also, all of these big name video games going on Xbox Game Pass will provide a lot of good value and could potentially keep the buying of games a lot cheaper for folks. It will defenitely be interesting to see how this acquisition plays out that’s for sure.
That’l do it for today’s update from Des Moines Gaming Club. Thanks so much for watching and we’ll see you soon.
