Good Morning folks and welcome back to another Tuesday Telecast from Des Moines Gaming Club. We have got a regularly scheduled week ahead here at the Club so that means casual play will be available Tuesday-Thursday 1pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday 1pm-11pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm. The weekly tournament schedule is normal as well with FGC night Wednesday from 6-10pm with official tournaments in Guilty Gear Strive and Street Fighter V with plenty of friendlies in other games as well. Thursday night is Smash Bros. with doubles starting at 6:30 followed by singles at 7pm in both Ultimate and Melee. Friday night is FIFA 22 at 7pm and Sunday is Rocket League at 1pm.
This past Sunday we hosted our 3rd Des Moines B-Side FGC tournament and it was an absolute blast. We had tournaments in Vampire Savior and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 (congrats to Top Hat on winning both of those) and those were followed by tournaments in BlazBlue Central Fiction and the new DNF Duel. Congrats to ZachCat on winning BlazBlue and WonderfulDeluxe on winning DNF Duel. It was a solid turnout all around but DNF Duel had great turnout which was awesome to see. PhillyB ran a fun side tournament as well with the new capcom fighting collection. Thank you everyone for coming out and we look forward to our next FGC monthly Clash in the Capital which is set to take place August 13th.
We are close to finishing up the details of a new Monthly tournament. Tentatively on August 20th we will be hosting a 3v3 competitive Rocket League tournament here at the Club. It will be 10 teams maximum and we will be adding $50 of pot bonus along with of course whatever pot is provided by the teams entering. Super excited about this and you can expect an official announcement with a sign up page later this week!
Finally, we’ll end this weeks update with some esports industry news. The Call of Duty League Major 4 is set to start this Thursday July 14th in Brooklyn, NY. The New York Subliners are of courses the hosts and it’s sure to be an electrifying event. You can catch the action exclusively on the CDL’s YouTube channel Thursday through Sunday. There are a lot of teams that have a chance at winning this tournament but the favorites are likely Atlanta FaZe who haven’t won a tournament yet this year but have been playing well recently. One notable details is that due to having to play with a substitute because of Illey’s injury, OpTic Texas are starting in Loser’s bracket at this tournament meaning if they lose just one match they are out of the tournament.
Moving on, the Apex Legends Global Series World Championship was this past weekend in Raleigh, NC and it was an amazing event. As a big Apex Legends fan myself, I found the entire event really fun to watch and was impressed by the production. I really do love the format that the ALGS uses to determine it’s winner because it makes for one heck of a championship Sunday. There were so many story lines but it was team Dark Zero that ended up taking home 1st place lead by star play Genburten. Dark Zero hails from Australia and they were able to clutch up in the ninth game on Sunday. Team Furia lead by HissWatson had 4 match point opportunities but couldn’t find the win, even though they racked up the highest amount of kills over the entire tournament and were likely the best team there. Already can’t wait for the next ALGS season.
Finally, my wife and I finely just got around to watching Arcane, the League of Legends animated TV series on Netflix and can I just say.. Wow! What a great show. The first 3 episodes felt a little slow to us but the 4th episode just blew the doors down and it was very good the rest of the way till the end of the first season with episode 9. If you haven’t watched it yet I highly suggest you do so, even if you don’t play LoL because it was very well done. The animation style is unique and cool, the voice acting is fantastic, and the story line was quite impressive. Like I said there only 9 episodes around 40 minutes long each so it wouldn’t take you very long to get caught up. Season 2 is in production but no release date has been announced yet.
That’l do it for this week’s update from Des Moines Gaming Club. Thanks so much for watching and we’ll see you next week!
