Good afternoon and welcome to another weekly update from Des Moines Gaming Club!
The first iteration of Des Moines’s new Smash Bros Regional Run, Don’t Walk took place this past Saturday and by all accounts it was a major success. I was fortunate enough to get to go out there for about an hour before opening the Club on Saturday and it was an absolute blast. The venue was great being in a very spacious and well laid out conference center at the Hilton Garden Inn in West Des Moines. There was a great turnout of around 250 people with some of the best players in Ultimate, Melee, P+, and Rivals of Aether in the midwest. The streams were great quality with a lot of commentators and there were so many hype sets. It was really fun watching the tournament on the TVs here at the Club and it was especially fun cheering for all of the Iowa players who have been kind enough to come to our events so often. Can’t wait to see how awesome the next Run, Don’t Walk will be!
Speaking of Smash Bros. our Des Moines monthly Downtown Duels is this upcoming Saturday. We have doubles in Ultimate and Melee starting at Noon followed by singles starting at 1:30pm. Venue fee is $7, only $5 if you bring a setup and it is $8 to enter the singles tournaments and $5 to enter the doubles tournaments. We will of course be providing $100 of pot bonus as well that will be split between Ultimate and Melee singles. You can sign up by going to start.gg and searching or downtown duels. As for this week at the Club, casual play will be available today-Thursday from 1pm-10pm and Friday from 1pm-11pm. There will be no casual play on Saturday because of Downtown Duels and there will be no casual play on Sunday as I will be taking the day off. The weekly tournament schedule is normal except for no Rocket League on Sunday. That means Wednesday night is FGC with casual from 6-10pm and tournaments in Guilty Gear Strive and DNF Duel at 7pm. Thursday night is Smash Bros. with squad strike starting at 6:30 followed by singles at 7pm. Finally friday night is FIFA 22 at 7pm.
