Good Afternoon gamers and welcome back to another weekly update from Des Moines Gaming Club. Big shout out to Ethan who helped cover while I was away over the weekend. I am of course back in town but the Club will likely be closed on Saturday the 25th because I have a wedding to attend here in Des Moines. Other than that though the schedule will be normal so that means casual play will be available today-Thursday 1pm-10pm, Friday 1pm-11pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm. The weekly tournament schedule will be normal with FGC night Wednesday from 6-10 with official tournaments in Guilty Gear Strive and Tekken 7 starting at 7pm. Thursday night is Smash Bros. with squad strike at 6:30 followed by singles in Ultimate and Melee at 7pm. Friday is FIFA 22 at 7pm and Sunday is Rocket League at 1pm.

One thing I want to mention is the Meet Your Destiny video game tournament in Ottumwa, IA this weekend June 24th and 25th. It is a free event for high school students, including those that just graduated this year. On Friday is League of Legends tournament and a Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament, then on Saturday there are tournaments in Rocket League and Mario Kart 8. There are gaming chairs and gaming peripherals available to win as prizes but the big draw here is that there will be collegiate recruiters here looking for players to join their teams. Going to be a great event for all of those high school esport players out there where they can compete against their peers, show off their skills, and talk to collegiate esport programs. If you want to just go and watch and not compete, you can do that too! Super exciting to see an event like this here in Iowa that can be so beneficial to high school esport players.

Don’t forget our Smash Bros. monthly tournament is coming up on Saturday July 2nd less than two weeks away. To sign up for that just go to start.gg and search downtown duels.

I’d like to wrap up today’s video with a reflection on our first year in business. As you may know June 17th was our 1 year anniversary of our frist day open for business. It’s crazy to think that one year ago we were in the Southridge Mall welcoming people to the club for the first time. We’ve come a long way from our first Smash tournament that was streamed from my laptop that was simply pointed at a screen because I couldn’t get capture card to work in time. Now we host monthly tournaments, we’re working with local collegiate esport programs, and oh yeah, we moved to an awesome location downtown Des Moines. There are so many people I need to thank but a huge shout out to our sponsors Atlantic Bottling. Co. Dymin Sytems, and 21st Century Rehab. Thank you to all of my friends who have supported DMGC from the beginning, and the biggest of thank you’s to my wife, Elli, who if you don’t already is the real MVP of Des Moines Gaming Club. Finally though, thank you to every single customer who has come into the club. Whether it was for a tournament, just to play casually for an hour, or if you rented the club out for an event. It has been so cool to see so many gamers have a good time here. We will continue to provide a top quality gaming venue for Cenral Iowa. Thank you all so much and have a great week.
