Good Morning and welcome to another Tuesday Telecast from Des Moines Gaming Club, our weekly update on the goings on here at the Club. We of course have to kick this one off by saying Thank you! Thank you so much to everyone who came out during our Grand Opening Weekend! As I said in a post yesterday, we nearly doubled the amount of Founding Members that we had before we opened the club so that is just fantastic. We now have 53 users in our system that signed into the computers and we had many more family members that came and checked out the space as well. I want to thank our three corporate sponsors Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Co., 21st Century Rehab, and Dymin Systems for making this weekend possible. It was a wonderful start to our in-person events and it’s only the beginning.
Our schedule this week will be our normal hours which are as follows: Tuesday-Saturday Noon to 9pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm, and closed on Monday. Thursday at 7pm is a Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament in-person at the club, Friday is a Rocket League tournament at the club and on LAN, and then Saturday will be a Call of Duty Warzone tournament and possibly a Cold War tournament if we have interest for that as well. We are so excited to start hosting regular competitions on LAN. Now gamers in central Iowa won’t have to travel so far just to compete in the games they love.
It was wonderful to meet so many people in person this weekend, especially those of you who have supported us on social media or who have participated in our online events. We have a strong community and it is only going to get stronger. One thing I wanted to mention that I don’t think I have yet. If you participate in a tournament, the time that you spend actually on a PC or console playing in the tournament will not be counted as paid time through the gaming center. As many of you know now, when you create an account at the Club you add time to the account so that you can play on PC or console, during tournaments we will not take that time off your account because either you paid for the tournament separately or you a member and we still count it as though you paid for it separately. For console tournaments we just won’t log people into the consoles and thus it won’t take time off of your account. For tournaments on the PCs, you will have to log in, but we will make a note of how much time you had time you had on your account before the tournament and how much time you have after and we will add time back to your account. Hope that makes sense!
One more thing you can be on the lookout for is a new YouTube series coming either tomorrow or Thursday likely. As we’ve said here at DMGC, the community is the most thing and so we want to highlight those of you have chosen to become Founding Members of Des Moines Gaming Club. This YouTube series will be called the Member of the Month and it will basically just be a conversation between myself and a member of the club. First up we have Ethan Gaulke who has helped out quite a bit in the building of this place so look out for that video soon.
Now, let’s move on to some esports industry news. The Call of Duty Major IV tournament happened this past weekend and what do you know Atlanta Faze came out on top. They have now won 3 of the 4 major tournaments and are clearly a cut above the rest of the CDL. Dallas Empire did give them a run for their money in the Grand Finals while Toronto Ultra got third and OpTic Gaming got 4th.
The North American League of Legends League Championship Series continued it’s matches over this past weekend as well. TSM is in sole possession of first place while 100Thieves continues their impressive form and are charging towards 2nd place. Dignitas on the hand has had a poor run of form and have slid to mid-table.
Finally, the Rocket League Championship Series also played it’s finals this weekend and perennial powerhouse NRG came out on top once again clearly establishing themselves as the best team in North America.
That’l do it for today’s Tuesday Telecast, thank you for reaching out and see ya at the Club!
